Today is Memorial Day- A big Thank You to all those who have served this great country.

A STRONG LONG TRACK Tornado occurred last night beginning around Tyrone OK- just South of Liberal in the OK panhandle.

IT grew into this:

It traveled 74 miles in just over 4 hours    with more than one Tornado on the ground from time to time. It finally weakened as it was taken over by a line of Thunderstorms. Here is the path with damage reports:

Thank goodness it was over mostly rural areas…

We should see some SUN with temps climbing into the upper 70s to low 80s. This in conjunction with all the low level moisture will help to create BIG TIME instability. The trigger for the instability will be a weak cold front moving SE across the State.

The Tornado threat isn’t high but it isn’t non existent either- Central -North Central KS would be my target area today.

This is how the models think storms form between 3-6 today.
The front stalls somewhere in Southern KS – giving that area chances for heavy rainfall Tues/Wed.

THURS-SAT another upper level low sets up in the desert Southwest and sends pieces of energy out into the plains giving us chances for HEAVY RAIN and a Severe storm here and there all of those days. Again, heavy rain looks to be the main threat.

Please keep track of your rainfall this week.

Have a great day Weather Watchers-
