Hello Weather Watchers!

A Dense Fog Advisory has been issued for Central Kansas until 8AM Sunday Morning.

VERY DENSE FOG IS BEING REPORTED BETWEEN RUSSELL AND ELLSWORTH EXITS ON I-70

The reason Fog is forming is that there is cooler air at the lower levels. Weak NNW winds caused by a weak piece of energy just above the surface is being over-run by moist air just above the cooler air.

Let’s take a look at the wind direction and what levels they are from.

Current temps and Low level winds >5mph

Mid levels

Upper levels ( which really don’t matter ) we just wanted to show you we are still in a Zonal flow pattern ( West to East )

The moist layer over-running the cool layer is called Advection Fog.

The cool layer will increase in height giving us cloudy skies through Tuesday before we warm up briefly Wed ahead of another cool front later next week that could bring showers to the Eastern 1/3 of the State. CONFIDENCE IS LOW ON THIS FORECAST…

Stay tuned….
