Good morning Weather Watchers!

Here are current conditions:

It shows a WIDE temperature variance, Teens Northwest to 50 in Southeast KS.

There is an area of VERY LIGHT SNOW over the NW 1/4 of the State.

It’s COLD with winds gusting to around 30mph from the North in Central KS.

Looking at this weekends system-

The Cold Air is already in place at the surface. Snow should to begin Saturday in Northern Kansas and move South. As it moves South the area of Snow will lose lift and moisture will be lacking.

Here are the latest NAM and EURO models for Snowfall amounts.

Still thinking 1″- 4″ totals – NOT seeing significant icing issues unless you are headed towards Southeast KS and especially Southwest and Southern MO including Springfield/Branson areas. Southeast KS could see PATCHY freezing drizzle after midnight tonight into Sat AM – Southeast of the KS Turnpike….

Sunday remains cold….

Questions- please ask!

I’m not sure how the drought map we loaded to yesterday was not the most up to date, it was last weeks.

The difference is VERY significant. EXTREME DROUGHT has made its way from Western OK into a large ares of Southwest and Central Kansas:

This National Map shows how much of the US is experiencing a drought and it is quite concerning.

Drought breeds drought is what a meteorology instructor once told me.

Now is the time to act for those living in rural areas – clear brush from around your home and out buildings within (at least) a 50 ft radius just in case of an approaching Wild Fire- it should help establish a fire break to protect your property.
