Hello Weather Watchers!

Fall will definitely be in the air Thursday morning….as a fast moving Cold front moves Southeast across the State.

It should be approaching a Russell Greensburg line by 7AM

Here is current radar at 1:20 AM- Severe storms have developed along the nose of mid level moisture and wind shear. The moisture is being drawn North by a Strong upper level Low across Western NE.

Here is what the Watch/Warning map looks like. The significant snow will stay to our North… Something which may look different when this system returns in the future.

Here is the 500mb Winds showing the upper Low this morning at 7AM and then on Friday at 7 AM:

7AM FRIDAY:

Notice how the winds on the SE side of the Low increase significantly as the storm really begins to wind up. A sign that seasons are truly changing as the jet stream winds increase in strength at much lower latitudes.

Remember- the Warm side of the Storm is on the East and South side while the Cold is wrapped around from the North and West sides.

A very large storm system… will be interesting to see how it returns in the future….

FREEZE LIKELY Thurs night/Fri morning ACROSS WESTERN 1/2 of KANSAS….

If you are one that watches the models…dont look past 5 days if you want accuracy… Models struggle with Cold air and as our New Pattern takes shape they will struggle with these new intensifying jet stream and stronger Winter systems.

Let’s watch this system and then watch what happens the last 1/2 of the month….

Seeing some signs for above average moisture- again… don’t get to excited just yet…let’s wait for more indications.

TODAY:

EXPECT TEMPS TO FALL THROUGHOUT THE DAY WITH STRONG NORTH WINDS JUST AHEAD AND BEHIND THE FRONT BEFORE RETREATING AS THE MUCH COOLER AIR MOVES IN.
