Groundhog doesn’t see shadow, predicts early Spring.
Happy Groundhog Day Weather Watchers!
Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow which mean Spring will come early this year! We kind of knew that though didn’t we?
The Groundhog is a relative of the Squirrel except they burrow underground and are called Hogs because of how large they are. I had a teacher who grew up in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania where all the hoopla takes place. We celebrated Groundhog Day every year, I remember it well.
Our weather today doesn’t feel or look like Spring today.
Here is Colby Kansas just a few minutes ago from an I-70 Camera.
In fact, most roads are closed in NW Kansas, SW and South Central Nebraska as well as NE Colorado.
As it moves out of the area the pressure gradient should gradually decrease allowing the winds to decrease as well from West to East.
Look for temperatures to begin to moderate by Thursday…Temperatures should be close to normal until the weekend- with highs in the 40s ( lower where snow is on the ground)
The the weekend we should see highs around 50 in the Southern half of the State, somewhat cooler North.
Another Cold front moves through next Monday bring temps back into the 30s.
