Good morning Weather Watchers!

The area of Low Pressure we dealt with yesterday will once again move SSE towards NW MO.

We here in Kansas will be in the “dry slot” with the current pattern we are in.

Dry Air from the SW mixing in with Cooler/Drier air moving South from Canada will provide us with Extremely Low Relative Humidities causing an EXTREME FIRE THREAT. Add 50-60mph Wind gusts from the Northwest- that will exacerbate our GRASS FIRE INDEX TO CATASTROPHIC for the next 12 Hours for most of Kansas.

We experienced 6 Fires yesterday that we’re controlled within a few hours.

EXCELLENT JOB BY FIRE CREWS!

TODAY WILL BE MORE CHALLENGING DUE TO CONDITIONS….

Here is our threat map:

HIGH WIND WARNING AREAS WEST OF I-135…Gusts to 60mph 9am-7pm

FIRE THREAT FOR KANSAS- OKLAHOMA-MISSOURI- WESTERN NEBRASKA.

WE WILL NOT BE REPORTING ON ANY FIRE LOCATIONS UNLESS THEY ARE A THREAT TO LIFE/PROPERTY AS WE DON’T WANT TO ENCOURAGE SIGHT SEEING.

It will be important Fire crews can get to locations quickly….

STAY SAFE CENTRAL PLAINS!!
