Happy Friday Weathers!!

Our Winter Weather forecast verified!!

We forecast and timed out the area of 1″-3″ Snowfall from South Central Kansas into North Central and Northeast sections Tuesday evening-36 hours prior to the event.

This System was very impressive as is quickly intensified in North Central OK late Wednesday night. See the comma forming in North Central OK?

WE HAD THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOP AROUND 1:30AM Thursday ahead of the front in the Warm Sector as the Low was intensifying providing Lift for the Storms to develop…

Here was the radar image – some in McPherson, Rice and Reno counties saw some brief heavy rain.

Here is the Snowfall graphic from NWS Wichita showing estimated Snowfall-

Here is the moisture reports from the K-State Mesonet:

There was lots of Wind on the back side of this system with North winds gusting to 50mph in Central KS . The strongest wind gust reported was at the Garden City airport, where a 68mph gust was reported after the Cold front moved through right around midnight. Several reports of 50+mph gusts were recorded from Midnight to 6AM in the Southwest quarter of the State, another piece of our forecast that verified from our Tuesday forecast.

We wish we had better news for Farmers – the lack of moisture is beginning to take its toll. Here is today’s updated Drought Index.

The entire State has seen Abnormally dry conditions however, Western, Central and South Central areas are seeing SEVERE DROUGHT CONDITIONS while EXTREME DROUGHT conditions are beginning to show up along the KS/OK border where we saw significant fires last Spring. We are getting VERY CONCERNED that another historic fire threat set-up could be in the making as well as wide spread crop losses.

LIGHT SNOW CHANCES FRI NIGHT then again SUN NIGHT INTO MON AM as areas of reinforced Arctic Air moves through Friday night then again Sunday night.

The Sunday night system is a Clipper system that has the potential to produce a dusting for areas along and just South of I-70.

Light Snow as the Cold Air moves further South Monday:

We will update you later tonight…

Saturday – COLD!! Highs only in the Teens and 20s for most locations…

Sunday should be warmer as the Cold front moves back North as a Warm front, before another piece of the Arctic cold moves South Sunday evening…..setting the stage for VERY COLD and Below Normal temps Monday – Wednesday.
