SURFACE LOW TRACK….WINDS WILL BE INCREASING….I-70 Closed DUE TO HEAVY SNOW/BLOWING SNOW
Good afternoon Weather Watchers!
It depends on where you are in KANSAS that determines your weather.
At our office in Hutchinson- we are beginning to see low clouds move in from the West as the Surface Low is just North of Hutchinson. We are located in the dry slot.
Remember, winds rotate counterclockwise around Low Pressure-the strength of the Low is fairly strong.
HIGH WIND WARNINGS ARE ISSUED ON THE SOUTH AND EAST SIDE OF THE LOW ( The Warm sector ) GUSTS TO 60mph ARE POSSIBLE!
🔥🔥🔥THIS WILL PROMOTE EXTREME FIRE DANGER ACROSS SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS🔥🔥🔥
Let’s take a look at current conditions:
I-70 closed COLBY to DENVER…
TRACK OF LOW
This is the LEAD storm system.
A brief area of High Pressure will build in Wednesday making for a good travel day until around Midnight when a strong piece of energy from the Southwest moves NE into the area.
Snow will likely fall across South Central and Central Kansas with Rain further South.
Warm air will advect from the South as the Warm front moves North it will increase temps – this front will help bring fairly decent amounts of moisture with it as well. We will likely see some THUNDERSTORMS with CAPE values increasing. This should be one of the greatest moisture producers.
PRIOR to the Warm front moving North through KANSAS – we are expecting ACCUMULATING SNOW mainly North of US400 from 1AM Thursday to around 10AM Thanksgiving morning.
The Snow will then become a Rain/Snow mix North to Rain across areas South of I-70.
Rain will continue through Friday evening…
We will provide a more detailed forecast as conditions warrant.
*** PLEASE REPORT ANY OPEN FLAME, BURNING OR FIRE TO 911 IMMEDIATELY – WILD FIRES ARE A SIGNIFICANT THREAT OVER THE NEXT 12 HOURS ***
Please let us know what your area is experiencing throughout the evening.
