The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Discussion form Freezing Rain in a Large area from New Mexico to Iowa- see below. I turned off the precipitation so you could see the area we are talking about.

This is the area in Kansas we are talking about… The little circles with a cloud are reports from YOU that we relay to the NWS.

Here is the CURRENT RADAR:

There is an area where the HEAVY precip is starting to wain. That area will likely fill back in with some additional moderate freezing rainfall around midnight or after- this precipitation is expected to continue to produce freezing rain/drizzle overnight tonight and into the day tomorrow. IT WILL NOT BE AS INTENSE AS THE RAINFALL HAS BEEN TODAY. However, we think it will be heavy enough to accumulate on untreated roadways trees and power lines up to .50″! With temps staying around 25-28 degrees overnight into Friday melting doesn’t appear to occur- so additional buildup is possibly.

Here is the additional development that will move towards us.

Our low is sitting and spinning in the desert SW. It is a cut-off, closed low which means it has separated from the main flow- it is sitting there and spinning off pieces of energy towards the area which is responsible for our precip..

Here is the piece of energy for later tonight- see it over the Central part of the State?

Here is another piece of energy it sends our way as it spins – this is Sunday night- looks like another round of Freezing rain.
