Good Saturday morning Weather Watchers!

Showers have formed as a weak piece of energy moves across the State this morning.

The showers will move to the East with clearing skies occurring from West to East.

Starting to get a better picture of next week. It definitely looks like a very WET week with at least a couple of rounds of SEVERE storms- TUES/WEDS  look to be the best days for Heavy rain and Severe storms- Hail and Winds being the main threat at this time.

Tuesday afternoons CAPE – the energy needed for Storms

  Wednesday’s CAPE :

Available moisture- called Precipitable Water Values or PWATS….some of the highest PWATS we have seen in months in Kansas.

Forecasted Precip through Thursday

As you can see, some very nice totals forecast 1-3″ widespread rains.

Our pattern is changing to more of a Southwest flow which allows storms to “dig” into the Southwest which is necessary for Spring storms systems to develop and affect Kansas. We have been in a Northwest flow on and off for most of the Winter and early Spring keeping the Gulf moisture in check – preventing it from streaming North. That looks to change.

May looks wet- here is the Precipitation forecast for the entire month from NOAA- will it verify?

If your farm, how will heavy rain help or hinder your crops??

Expect South winds to pick up today increasing Sunday into Monday with gusts to 35-40mph.

Thunderstorm chances ramp up Monday and continue through Friday-

Have your rain gauges ready!

More later……
